Staying Safe Online & Avoiding Scams

How can we stay safe in this wild digital world? How can we avoid scams? Our instructor, Mike McMahon, will do a deep dive into both topics. We will discuss the importance of establishing effective passwords, including the use of password manager software and Passkeys. But many of the nastiest scams attack us using phone calls and text messages. What is our best defense against that? Come learn how to stay safe while still enjoying the benefits of high tech. The last 15 minutes will be devoted to your questions.
Google Photos – Many New Features!

Google Photos is a free tool to organize, edit, share, and safely protect your photos and videos. Our instructor, Mike McMahon, will briefly review the basics of Google Photos. But most of our time will be spent learning about the impressive new photo editing features. Now incorporating the power of AI, you’ll be amazed of the sophisticated edits that you can now accomplish with very simple commands. The last 15 minutes will be devoted to your questions.

We’ve all heard plenty about Artificial Intelligence – both the benefits and dangers. Our instructor, Mike McMahon, will show how we can use Ai for helpful tasks with little or no risk. For example, we’ll see how Ai can be our tech fixer – providing step-by-step instructions on solving tech problems: no need to reach for a User Manual or phone a friend! Further, the new features of Ai include some incredible tools to generate fun graphics, photos, and videos. We’ll play with some of those – you will be amazed! The last 15 minutes will be devoted to your questions.

We know that YouTube provides a wealth of free entertainment, education, and fixit videos. Our instructor, Mike McMahon, will help you to get the most from YouTube. We’ll see how you can find high-quality content on topics of interest to you. We’ll see how you can post free videos on YouTube, including options for restricting viewing access to only certain groups (e.g. videos of family events). We’ll discuss the very popular world YouTube Shorts, a competitor to TikTok and Instagram. Take advantage of the abundant resource of YouTube…come learn all about it. The last 15 minutes will be devoted to your questions.
